Chanel Aqualumiere Lipgloss: Sheer and Shiny

May 1st, 2008 by Karen 43 Comments

chanel-aqualumiere-beauty-shot

Chanel’s Aqualumiere Glosses ($25) debut this month, and boy are these bad boys built to shine. All nine of the shades deliver loads of sheer, super shiny color.

They don’t feel sticky at all on my lips. Unlike Chanel Glossimer lipglosses, Aqualumiere Gloss wands are tipped with a brush. I appreciate that. For me the brush makes Aqualumiere easier to apply than other products with doe-foot applicators.

Top row (from left to right)

  • Bonbon
  • Vanilla
  • Freeze
  • Candy Glow

Bottom row (left to right)

  • Diamond Rose
  • Ironic Tonic
  • Party Red
  • Glass Quartz
  • Bubble Plum

I got these swatches a few hours ago at my local Nordies, and Candy Glow (sheer, peachy pink with tiny golden flecks) came home with me.
chanel-candy-glow-aqualumiere-lip-swatch

What I like about Candy Glow…

  • Subtle color (perfect for pairing with bold eye makeup looks)
  • High shine
  • Not sticky
  • Moisturizing
  • Brush applicator

What I don’t like about Candy Glow…

  • Not long lasting (I had to reapply after two hours)
  • Fades faster than Chanel Glossimer, MAC Lipglass and Clinique Glosswear lipglosses
  • Expensive ($25)

Chanel Aqualumiere Lipgloss

Price: $25
Use: A sheer lipgloss used alone or layered on top of lipsticks
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

I get the feeling I’ll have to apply Aqualumiere often, but I can deal with that. It’s Chanel, after all! I don’t love it as much as Clinique Glosswear, my current gloss crush, but I’m glad I gave Candy Glow a go.

My Chanel makeup artist buddy at Nordies tells me that Glass Quartz has been flying off the shelves, but I went with Candy Glow instead. It’s the pink! I got mad love for pink.

Purchase Aqualumiere Gloss at your favorite Chanel counter or online.

T-minus two hours until Friday, and I can’t wait for the weekend. Hopefully I finish my chores and errands early enough to catch a matinee. Gimme that bag o’ popcorn ASAP!

What are your plans for the weekend?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hey Karen!
These look tempting for sure!! 😀 I wanted to ask you something: How does El Hub deal with all your lipglosses? Just because my boyfriend gets shocked anytime he sees my lipstick/lipgloss collection!!! And when I’m looking for a new one he keeps trying to convince me that I don’t need another one!! LoL.
    Hugs! :3

    Hey Karen

I love the colour the model has on – is that the one your bought?

Yesterday I got two of the new Shu Gloss Unlimited colours – gorgeous too (looks similar to the Chanel), very shimmery but a tad sheer. I’ll see how it goes!

So K I kinda checked these out last night after I went to clinique…and glass quartz was my favorite…but after your review…I doubt this will be something I lust after…personally if I have to reapply all the time I won’t use it. So I was slightly disappointed last night as I decided to go to macy’s last night because they were still having their clinique gwp. So a thursday evening around 7:30 I figured it shouldn’t be too crazy. Well there was only one SA and I’m pretty sure I knew more about clinique than she did. This one has kinda open flowing cosmetic counters and I actually had to locate some of my own products…and unfortunately they were out of a couple things on my list…so I definitely didn’t get everything I was planning on. I picked up sunlit palm, but they were out of lucky penny, so I went with the starlit pink, then the only lippie on my list that they had was the rock violet 🙁 I picked up an eyeshadow quad for my mom and then i picked up a bronzer for her at Estee Lauder.

So I’m going to be low key again this weekend…I’m gearing up and kinda dreading the next few weeks… it seems like I’m busy just about every weekend between now and the end of June. So I think I need to take advantage of some down time while I can. 🙂 BTW I am so glad today is Friday…:-)

I just discovered your blog. It’s really cool and well done. I’m hoping there are some “bargain” entries soon. Right now I can’t spare $25 for lip gloss. Speaking of bargains tonight I’m gonna kick off my weekend with free jazz night at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

Very pretty! That color is so you! I think I like Ironic Tonic the best! Since they don’t last that long, I’ll probably stick with the regular glossimers and MAC lipglasses for now!

I love the color in the ad too! I wonder which one that is….

Today is work (semi-busy), but I think one day this weekend I’m going to make the 1 hour drive to the “big” NICE mall-I could order online, but the hubby needs to do some major writing for school and I think he would appreciate some quite time.

I’m out of some basics, and want to get some bobbi brown, shu, and kiehls (and I don’t have any of those counters locally). I may really check out these new chanel glosses too-I just love, love, love peachy pink.

Oh my god! I wish you’d somehow had blogged about these earlier! When I was at the Shanghai Pudong airport in China there was a whole row of these lipglosses and I hadn’t realised they were a new set! They were a bargain too..Because they didn’t have tax!!!

Love your blog by the way!! I check everyday!

Ooh Karen, you’ve just made my day! Some years ago when Chanel had Cristalle Glosses I bought ‘Melon’. I loved it A LOT and had no idea it was LE (at least they were soon gone in Finland).. I used the whole tube in like two months and was shocked to find out they were gone and nowhere to be found. I think Candy Glow is the closest thing to Melon, so I can’t wait to get to see what it’s like IRL. I’d also love Freeze and Diamond Rose. And of course get lots of back ups in case they’re fab and LE!

Are you planning on getting more of these?

PS. I was browsing through the makeup section at a department store the other day and I was kinda talked into buying Estée Lauder’s Pure Color UltraLight Gloss in Sparkling Shell. It’s a pretty shade for the summer IMO 🙂

    Have a superb weekend!

The only Chanel product I have ever tried was their nail polish and didn’t like it. At $25, I would rather go to MAC and get two lustreglasses.

I do like Candy Glow though.

    Hi Ilovecheese,

Glass Quartz is reallly purty. I didn’t have time to try it on but will the next time I go to the counter. El Hub was in the car waiting for me so I had to hurry! I do this on purpose so that I won’t be loitering about the makeup section for hours.

Hope you had a great Friday! 🙂

    Hi Eru,

Happy Friday, girlfriend. I think El Hub is just happy that my lipgloss habit is considerably cheaper than my old shoe habit. When I was bringing home shoes every week he gave me a lot of crap (“why does one girl need so many black shoes?” LOLOL). I want to see your lipglosses someday! Ahhh, I bet it’s dreamy. 🙂

    Hi Megan,

Oh pooh! I was really looking forward to hearing about your looty-loot. I am glad you at least got a few things.

I was totally thinking of you last night when I went to the makeup counter cause on my way out I stopped by Estee Lauder and sprayed myself with some Tuberose Gardenia. MAN! So good. I’ve smelled it before but for some reason it was just extra good on my skin last night. The last time I went to Hawaii my mom-in-law gave me a tuberose lei when we arrived and the Estee scent smelled exactly like it. I forsee a small bottle in my future (and you know that bottle is like a ‘gateway’ drug.)

Wow, you are one popular girl! I’m guessing you have weddings and graduations to go to in the next few weeks? Anyway, enjoy your mellow weekend! 🙂

YUP! There will be. Some beauty stuff from Target (aka house of Tar-ghay) will be popping up soon so stay tuned.

Free jazz night sounds at the museum sounds like fun. I like museums and whenever I travel I try to visit at least one. I’ve never been to the LACMA. Do you have a favorite piece of art there?

    Hi Amanda,

Oh fun! A one hour is makeup dedication, girl. Props! While ordering online is very satisfying (I love putting stuff in my cart), there’s something about seeing the products in person and touching them. The hubby’s big paper is the perfect excuse to make the drive.

Can’t wait to hear what you think of the Aqualumiere Gloss! 🙂

    Hi Aleks,

YAY! I really hope that it’s similar to your Melon shade. Don’t you hate when you find out stuff is LE and you are like on your last drops of it? Heartbreaking!

When I go back to the counter I plan on tryin’ Glass Quartz. And Party Red. And Diamond Rose (cause that’s what I need… more pink lipgloss!).

OHHH! Sparkling Shell is very pretty. I swatched that one on the back of my hand a while back while contemplating buying a bottle of “Pleasures” (my scent circa 1997) for nostalgia’s sake.

And LOL, girl! “I was kinda talked into buying.” That’s like the story of my makeup life. I am so very easy prey!

What have you got going on this weekend? Isn’t your party coming up soon? How’s the walking in heels going?

Funny you should say that, since I just bought Equinoxe last weekend! 😀 That’s probably the real reason I didn’t splurge on any dazzleglasses, I figure that between Astral and Equinoxe I’m already there!

Ooh, I hope you like Sundress! It’s such a fantastic nude/neutral without ever being boring! I’ve “sold” more tubes of that than any other color of lipgloss! 😉

Aw, I’m glad you liked this gloss, Karen. I bought party red last month and it became my favorite since then. If you know any red (but not bold red) lipliner that would look good under it I would love to hear it.

    Hey!

Agreed, it really IS heartbreaking to see your HG lipgloss end and there’s nothing you can do about it. LOL. And weep!

All the colours you mentioned are fab! Let us know if you’ll get any of those! I can’t wait to get those in Finland.

Haha, yeah, what can I say, apparently we are too easy victims for all the MUAs! 😀 At the Estee counter I just looked around and swatched some products and then this woman started telling me about the spring collection (no summer one here just yet boo)and how Sparkling Shell is such a pretty colour and how it’s “exactly your colour” and there are only two tubes left and it’s sad they are LE and after they’re bought you can’t get them anywhere and blablabla 😀 I thought to myself “she’s just trying to sell those to me, be strong”, but um, apparently I wasn’t able to resist the call of the gloss. ;D

My weekend was good. I was at home, mostly, but enjoyed the Sun and bought supplies for the grad party invitations. Something rosy and pink! Thanks for asking, my operation high heels is still a tad bit up in the air, so to speak. I haven’t found the perfect shoes yet! But on Friday me and my friend will hit the stores in order to find the shoes. I’ve tried some on and they weren’t as uncomfy as I had imagined, which is great. 😀

How was your weekend? I loved your cat makeover!
